Autumn Candle

Decoration

The fall season is my favorite time of year! It’s the time of year where all the decorations are pulled out, and stops are made to make my home/ where ever I’m living, feel cozy and festive. Here in Korea, it's hard to come by decorations, so most of the decor pieces around my home had to be handmade. So this year, I pulled out the oranges, lemons, and cinnamon to create some decorations around the house.

So for decoration #1

What you’ll need:

  • 5 -8 big oranges

  • 5-8 medium-large sized lemons

  • a bundle of cinnamon sticks

  • A book (the one you’re willing to sacrifice)

  • scissors & box knife

  • LED candle

  • pencil or pen

  • vase & small ramakin/can

The first thing I did to create my decorations was to dehydrate the fruit. If you have a dehydrator, this process would be a lot easier; however, I only had a mini convection oven. So I cut my fruit into 1/2 - 1cm cuts to put in the oven at 200 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • I would recommend cutting them as thin as you can to cut down waiting time for the dehydration process.

They roughly take 4-5 hours to dehydrate, so in the meantime, I had moved onto cutting out pages from an old book. I wasn’t very precise with the cuts, and I even ripped some of the pages. This method was more visually pleasing than the straight cuts. Taking two pages out of the book, I had ripped them in half “hamburger way.” The riped paper is to surround the LED candle.

Using the rest of the scrap pages, I created strips that I would curl around a pencil to add texture to the vase that these oranges would go into next.

Once the fruit is dehydrated ( they will feel dry and hard [make sure it’s not sticky]), & let them cool. I then grabbed my simple cylinder 13” clear vase and put a small ramekin at the bottom. I covered the ramekin in the half sheets of book paper I had ripped before and started to add a few of the curled paper as well. While filling the sides with the curled paper, I snuck in a few candy corn pieces and the oranges/ lemons I dehydrated. Once you like where you placed every piece, the last thing I put in was the LED candle! Voila! Decor #1 Done!

I hope this was fun for you all, and if you enjoyed it, please let me know if there is anything else you’d like to see from me and share this post with your friends!
