Accessory Staples
JEWELRY FROM WORLD MARKET & LOCAL VENDORS
Accessories have always struck an interest with me from a young age. Starting with the old school beaded bags (which are back in style!) to hello kitty everything. The young fashionista/ wanna be model was just starting to bloom back then. Now, I’m definitely more subtle with my accessory choices. I love color but my main choices are dainty pieces for the typical day. Thats why I’m choosing to show you what I wear the most from my collection.
I’ve always loved red, so the one purchase that has been in my collection for the past few years is this red watch from Lavenda. It is dainty in size because it’s not one of those typical big face watches but a small 1 cm face. The straps are leather and the face/buckle is plated in rose gold. I bought this watch from a boutique in Korea which unfortunately went out of business.
Next to the watch are a pair of necklaces that were a recent 2019 purchase. Which have very quickly became a staple in my collection. Both are considered coin necklaces but one is an angel disk instead of a coin. Both are sterling silver from disk to chain but the gold necklace is plated in 14-18k gold. The purchase was made in the shopping district of Korea called Dongdaemun. It’s a city in Seoul that is known for its fabric district & night shopping experience. Unfortunately I don’t remember the name of the vendor I bought it from but most shops in Dongdaemun, Korea will have a similar product in which you can get in sterling silver/plated in gold.
The reason I choose to find pieces from different vendors and local businesses is because it supports their craft but I find it makes it easier to get your jewelry in hypoallergenic friendly metal. Being a person who has sensitive ears, it’s not always the easiest to put a forever 21 earring in my ear without irritation.
The one bracelet that I have aside from my gold charm bracelet, is an old favorite and has been with me since age 8. Some may recall the charm bracelet fad in the early 2000’s, where the more charms you had the more popular you were. It started with the tiffany bracelet, to the pandora charms, and lastly the one I have: the Italian charm bracelet. Mine has my middle name on it with a few charms that represented me. Those charms being a pair of ballet shoes, a painter’s pallet, an aquamarine birthstone, my faith, and my nationality. I keep this with me and wear it time to time because it reminds me of my childhood but is simple enough to just throw on. I believe you can still purchase these bracelets at a Claire’s or Icing store.
Back with the red, the pair of earrings that I wear when I want to bring a pop of fun to my outfit. Heart shaped earrings with a drop pearl which technically are buttons that have a chain holding the pearl. They definitely are a crowd favorite when I go out. I also got these in Dongdaemun, Seoul, South Korea.
Aside from those, I will generally pop in a pair of hoops or a simple stream lined earring. The hoops I choose to wear are never bigger that an inch and a half but thats just my personal preference.
The hoops that are gold plated and have little beads on them are from World Market. They might not sell those exact pairs but I definitely recommend world market as a jewelry option. They have some fun yet simple accessories that are not only budget friendly but easy access. The rest of my hoops are form local pop up vendors around Korea and California. All sterling silver or plated gold.
The U shaped earrings are another fun pair that are quite simple. They are also extremely easy to make if you’re up to the challenge. What you need is silver wire and needle nose pliers. Just bend the wire to the desired U shape or whichever shape you please, and snip at the length you want them! Easy peasy!
Lastly my rings, they change all the time but never really go far from the simple band shape. As you can tell by the photo, the only difference is the bead like bumps. They’re all silver aside from the multicolor bobble and the double line ring. Those I recall from the stores Francesca’s & Forever 21. I don’t really shop from those stores anymore, but they’ve stayed in my collection because they have surprisingly not shifted in color. The silver rings are from a pop up vendor in California most of which you can find at local flee markets.
These are just some of my staples but theres so much to choose from in the world that it’ll always change. No matter the choice you make in accessory purchases whatever makes you feel amazing is the best pieces to have!
